From the Big Bang to Dark Matter: Turning on the Large Hadron Collider

University of Arizona physicists are part of the international team working on the world's biggest scientific experiment ever.

On September 10th, the Large Hadron Collider will begin operation by sending a beam of sub-atomic particles around a 17-mile underground tunnel beneath the boundary of France and Switzerland. Ultimately the experiment will provide fundamental discoveries about our universe.

Come hear UA physicists discuss their participation in this historic experiment and explain how the world's largest scientific instrument will reveal secrets about our world.

Elliott Cheu, Associate Dean of UA's College of Science and UA Professor of Physics and member of the Large Hadron Collider-ATLAS team, along with others, will speak at the public lecture that will coincide with the turning on of the Large Hadron Collider.

The lecture will be on Sept. 10th, 7:30pm in PAS201. There will be some introductory remarks by Dr. Shelton, followed by Dr. Cheu's talk.
