Special and Ongoing Outreach Events

Interactive Displays (Ongoing)

Department members are currently constructing various interactive displays for cases in the lobby of the PAS building. The hope is to excite passerbys about physics, and allow them to learn about it in an interactive format. So far, a contest has been conducted relating to the first set of displays to be erected. The cases will be updated every semester.

Freshmen Orientation (Annual)

All day orientation for physics and engineering physics freshmen and transfer students. Tours, meetings with advisors, establishing email accounts and familiarizing of department resources and research opportunities were included. Students also got to eat lunch with professors and current students in an informal, relaxed setting. Note: we received a Faculty-Student Interaction Grant from the UA Dean of Students' Office to cover the cost of the luncheon.

Women in Science and Technology

An event at Pima East. High school students participated in various physics demonstrations and tours of the ATLAS lab.

Family Weekend (Annual)

Tours for parents and community members.

Meet Your Major Fair (Annual)

We set up a table at this annual fair for undecided students and faculty meet with interested students about what it is like to be a physics major.

TAPT (Ongoing)

Tucson Area Physics Teachers (TAPT) meets monthly as a support and social network, as well as to exchange technical and administrative information, for physics teachers. The monthly meetings feature invited speakers on topics of interest to the group.
