Chain Gang Junior Honorary

Chain Gang Junior Honoraryis proud to sponsor the Richard Garcia Memorial Scholarship commemorating the late Richard Garcia. Richard Garcia was Student Body President; head resident of Graham/Greenlee dorm, and member of Primus, Sophos, Chain Gang, and Bobcat honoraria, in addition to being a recipient of the Freeman Medal in 1982. This $1000 scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding University of Arizona student with junior standing who exemplifies active involvement and dedication to the University of Arizona.

We are soliciting letters of nomination for this scholarship. If you feel that you have a student within your resident hall, college, or department, please fill out a letter indicating why you feel the student exemplifies the qualifications that this scholarship represents. Letters of nomination may be turned into the ASUA office. All letters of nomination should be turned into the ASUA office before March 11, 2002 in order to be considered.

Individual students are encouraged to nominate themselves as well. Applications for the Richard Garcia Memorial Scholarship may be picked up in the ASUA office. Criteria for individual applications are listed above. Individual applications should be completed and submitted for review by the election committee by March 8. Application Process:

Applicants chosen for review will be notified by March 22. Interviews will be held on Wednesday, March 27th from 5-7 p.m. The winner of the scholarship will be announced at the evening of excellence on April 8, 2001. Barbara Lotze Scholarship for Future Teachers

The AAPT Executive Board offers a scholarship for future high-school physics teachers.

This scholarship, supported by an endowment funded by Barbara Lotze, is available only to U.S. citizens attending a U.S. school. Undergraduate students in, or planning to enter, physics teacher preparation curricula and high-school seniors planning to enter such curricula are eligible.

Successful applicants, normally one per year, will receive a stipend of up to $2,000. The scholarship may be granted to an individual for each of four years.

Applications will be accepted at any time and will be considered for recommendation to the Executive Board at each AAPT Winter Meeting.

Applications for which all materials, including letters of recommendation, received by DECEMBER 1 will be considered for recommendation at the following January meeting of the AAPT Executive Board.
