Desert Wildflowers

Here are a variety of wildflower photos (and some plants) in Arizona.

Here are some prickly pear flowers growing in a small section of desert near my old apartment.

Here is a tulip growing at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum near Superior, Arizona. I assume it was planted since it looked very strange surrounded by all the desert scenery.

Here is a blooming claretcup cactus in Chiricahua National Monument.

Here is an agave at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.

Here is a saguaro at the Desert Museum. The reddish fruits are now visible. The "sticks" heading to the upper left and upper right are part of an ocotillo directly behind the saguaro.

Here is a "Teddy Bear" cholla. Despite the name, it is best not to touch these... The photo was taken at Gates Pass in Tucson Mountain Park.

Here is the flower of a different species of cholla. This is also at Gates Pass.

Here is a flowering pincushion cactus (mammillaria grahamii) at Gates Pass. I They are quite small and also very abundant.

Here is a snow-covered agave along Oracle Ridge Trail in the Santa Catalina Mountains near Tucson. Note the "imprints" of the spines.

Here is a field of poppies (and some lupines) at Picacho Peak State Park. This was taken during the spring of 2001 which was one of the best wildflower seasons in recorded history.
