" The University of Maryland School of Medicine sponsors a number of summer research programs for under-represented minority students both on our campus in Baltimore and at several foreign sites. The programs "at home" are sponsored by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (5 positions) and the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (24 positions) while the international programs (20 positions)are sponsored by the Fogarty International Center and take place in the West Indies, Brazil, Chile and soon in China. These programs provide stipends ranging from $800 to $1,000 per month plus travel and housing allowances and in some cases cultural awareness and language lessons (foreign). Applications are generally accepted on a rolling basis and awards made when acceptable applications are complete. Deadlines are a guideline for receipt of applications.
