APRIL 2001 The CAAO (Center of Astronomical Adaptive Optics) at Steward Observatory is looking to hire two full time students for summer employment. The U. of A. currently has contracts with leaders in the aerospace industry in developing and analyzing concepts for space telescopes in support of NASA's Origins Program. We need a full time graduate student to assist in static and dynamic analysis of space telescope structures. The student will use 3D modeling IDEAS software and will assist CAAO mechanical engineers in conducting finite element analysis. The ideal student for this position would have experience with IDEAS finite element analysis software. We will train but prefer the candidate have experience with 3D modeling software. The other student position available is suited for an undergraduate. We need a student to generate 3D models of 'proof of concept' hardware and produce shop drawings for an experimental test device. The ideal student for this position would be familiar with IDEAS software and have some knowledge in standard drafting practice. Good position for students interested in exposure to areas in aerospace engineering, material science, optics, physics and astronomy. Option for part time employment during the school year exists. Anyone who knows a student who would like to gain experience working in these areas please contact Matt Rademacher at 621- 9212
