The lean angle of the motorcycle is determined by the balance of forces and torques necessary to accelerate through the turn:

where is the angle with respect to the vertical, v is the speed, R is the radius of the turn, and g is the acceleration due to gravity. (Note: certain factors, such as the angular momentum of the motorcycle's rotating parts, have been neglected in deriving this simple formula.)
