Lindsay's Tangled Web of Thoughts

Hi all!  Thanks for visiting my very first web page!  First, let me start with a brief introduction.  I am a physics and
                                education
student at the University of Arizona in Tucson.  I have been here for nearly five years and have enjoyed
all the learning and growing that comes with college.  I have met a wide variety of new people, each of whom add
                                                a little extra
color to my life.  I'm a happy hippie chick with love in her heart and knowledge on her mind. I always
                                                        enjoy getting into deep conversations
with my closest friends, neighbors, classmates, professors, and those random
conversationalists at any of the local coffee shops (I  highly recommend  trying out Bentley's on Speedway  just east
of Cherry or Hazy Dayz on 9th and Park).  Even though I am very busy with my studies, I always try to make time
for some fun.  My  hobbies include puzzles, art, stagecraft, reading, swimming, dancing, diving, music, laughing, and
keeping busy...one hobby at which I am particularly talented.

2003 summer REU program
The summer of 2003 has been a busy yet exciting time for me.  I am involved in a summer REU program (research experience for undergraduates) at the UofA, which has placed me in a laboratory at the university in order to gain experience in the physics field. Based on my interests and qualifications, I have landed in the Lunar and Planetary Lab (LPL) working with Dr. William Boynton and other planetary scientists on the GRS team.  I have been working closely with John Keller, a science educator working on his planetary science PhD, to produce an educational Mars unit geared toward familiarizing students with the GRS project and its findings.

The 2001 Mars Odyssey mission is a collaboration of scientists from NASA, JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory), UofA's
Lunar and Planetary Lab
, ASU, Johnson Space Center, and Lockheed Martin Astronautics.

2001 Mars Odyssey
The UofA provided the gamma ray spectrometer (GRS) to help determine the concentration of elements on the planet.  We collect and analyze the gamma ray data and create maps to show the concentration of different elements across the entire planet.

A little about me...

To me, ballet is the most beautiful form of art.  I took ballet for many
years before coming to college, where I now focus on my science.  I
miss dancing terribly and often find myself walzing down empty
hallways or around my apartment while listening to classical piano
music.  I have taken a few introductory ballet and tap courses here at
the university and Pima Community College to fill the void, but
nothing compares to the rigorous six days a week of training I spent
dancing and teaching at my studio in Phoenix.

My Collection:

I am a big fan of Coca Cola merchandise.  I began my collection on a trip to Europe, where I enjoyed Coca Cola in the foreign bottles so much that I brought them all home with me.  I have bottles from Mexico, England, France, Germany, Swizerland, and Holland as well as special Christmas, Nascar, and anniversary editions that were released in the United States.  Now I have other merchandise which I have accumulated since the start of my collection such as puzzles, pictures, tins, and a 3-D clock puzzle, which I had a blast putting together!

I am a desert rat to the end and do not see myself ever moving too far from the heat.  Originally from Phoenix, I return whenever I have the time (which is very rare, with school and a part-time job) to visit my family and old friends.  My little sister just graduated high school and will be attending ASU in the fall for music therapy.  My mom has just retired from teaching the 2nd grade, so I have been lucky enough to see her a little more than usual this summer.

These awesome photos were taken by Dave Barstow, one of those aforementioned great conversationalists.  Check out his gallery!
