Week
Two!!!!!
Work done on project: I have finished most of the machining
of my Renshape board. Also, I have fit my board into the cold plate
cube. Looks nice huh?
The square in
the middle will hold the heater. There are some more parts to this
board
but I found out today that I am going to put this one on hold to help
get the other Board going. The other board is the one made from FR-4
and copper. This board is one that we are retesting.
Today I machined a new bottom for the cold plate
cube. Because the bottom half of the cube will be insulated there is
no point in having the bottom be a cold plate. Also we are able to
modify the new bottom the make measurements easier to take. There will
be a pic on the main page in the following week.
Projected Future Difficulties: I don't foresee any serious problems.
The part I was most worried about was machining the board well enough
to fit in the cube and be functional. But with some help from Greg "Big
Head" Vance, I was able to do allot better than I expected.
With the new
bottom that we machined today we hope to start taking measurements next
week or so. Then a big challenge will be learning the equations and
processing the data.
New Science Learned: I have been
reading from a text book on Heat Transfer this week. So allot of holes
in my understanding of this project are being filled. I am really
understanding the differences between the three mechanisms of heat
transfer. Because I am concentrating mainly on natural convective heat
transfer I am reading more about it than the others. What have I
learned? Well, I'll tell you in my theoretical presentation. I've also
learned a lot about why we are doing this research and the purpose of
research labs like this one.
New Contacts Gained: We work
alone most of the time. I fear I may have used all of my contacts in
the first week. I'll see what I can come up with next week.
