Desert Scenery - 1

Here is a slightly zoomed in view of the Santa Catalina Mountains from the balcony of my old apartment. The highest point visible in the image it Mt. Kimball. It is at about 7800 feet or 5400 feet higher than town.

Believe it or not, it does snow in the Tucson area. Here is another photo of the Santa Catalina Mountains taken about three months later.

Here is a view of "Thimble Peak" from the Blackett's Ridge Trail in the Santa Catalina Mountains.

Here is a view back across Tucson from the Blackett's Ridge Trail. Blackett's ridge is in the forground. The Tucson Mountains are in the front of the background. And the Quinlan mountains (with Kitt Peak National Observatory on top) are in the left background.

Here is the evidence of a recent snowstorm atop Mount Lemmon in the Santa Catalina Mountains.

Here is a view taken from the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. There are numerous saguaro (with fruit), ocotillo, prickly pear cacti and a blooming agave in the image. One of the Kitt Peak telescopes is visible as a white dot on the distant Quinlan Mountains.

This image was taken from the Brown Mountain Trail (a link primarily for mountain bikers) in Tucson Mountain Park. The "town" in the image is Old Tucson Studios. Many television shows such as Bonanza and movies such as Mclintock and The Three Amigos were filmed here. The mountain in the background is "Goldengate Mountain" and it served as the backdrop for numerous films. I live several miles in the distance to the right of goldengate mountain.

Here is an interesting saguaro taken at Gates Pass in Tucson Mountain Park. There is a single branch of an ocotillo flowering as well.

Here is an image of the "window" which is reached by the The Ventana Canyon Trail in the Santa Catalina Mountains.

Here is a view from along the Valley View Trail in the western section of Saguaro National Park.

Here is "Rappel Rock" in the Santa Catalina Mountains.

Here is a view of some nice rock spires from inside the "window".

Here are some nice saguaro along the David Yetman Trail in Tucson Mountain Park.
